Tamarind Lane, near South Kolkata, Kolkata
The taste of tradition, on Tamarind Lane
Some snacks get eaten in front of the television. These get put out for guests. Murukku and chakli in jars, dry-fruit cake sweetened with honey instead of sugar, and pure-veg cakes made to order.
What is in the jars
You can tell a serious namkeen by the sound it makes. Every photograph here was taken in the shop, on the shelf it lives on, so the jar in the picture is the jar you will be handed.
Namkeens in jars
Murukku, chakli and the cheese jar under a maroon label, crisp enough to hear across the room.
Only at Copperpot
Dry-fruit cake sweetened with honey, jamun chips under the Copperpot label, and the house murukku.
Custom pure-veg cakes
Birthday, anniversary and occasion cakes, designed with you and made to order.
Sweet, with honey doing the work
The dry-fruit cake is sweetened with honey, not sugar. Dense, dark, heavy with fruit and nuts, and made only here.
It is the box you carry to the house that has already been given every mithai in the city. What honey instead of sugar does and does not mean is answered plainly on the exclusives page.
One box, or a hundred
Pure-veg snacks are what an office gives at Diwali and what a host puts out at a puja. Bulk orders are taken after a conversation about quantity and dates, and cakes are made to order.
A small shop that takes its snacks seriously
Everything here is pure veg. Some of it is made under the Copperpot label; the rest is chosen for the same shelf, one packet at a time.
The shop is on Tamarind Lane near South Kolkata, opposite the lake and the lake, and shares its address with Argent Lane Gifting, the silver-plated gift shop next door: the gift and the thing to eat with it, in one stop. Open every day, 10 am to 2 pm and 4 pm to 9 pm.
