Hosting

Website hosting, set up in your own name.

The site is published from a hosting account that belongs to you, with us added as a member you can remove at any time. That is the whole point of how this is arranged: nothing about your business should depend on us being reachable.

What setting up hosting involves.

01

The account set up in your name with your own email address, HTTPS enabled, security settings applied.

02

Your domain connected: the records, the certificate, the www redirect.

03

Hosting management for the year: publishing, a monthly check that the site is up, a backup copy of the files, a watch on the plan limits, reminders before renewals, a short note each quarter.

04

Uptime alerts, so a site that goes down is noticed by us before it is noticed by a customer.

05

The hosting company provides the hosting under its own terms. We set it up and look after it; we do not host the site ourselves, and nobody can promise it never goes down.

If your current site is hosted or held by somebody else, the first job is usually getting the accounts into your own name. Who holds what, and how to check it today, is set out on the ownership page.

Questions

Questions people ask

What does the hosting itself cost?

Nothing so far. Every site we have built runs on the hosting company’s free plan, which has been enough each time. If a site ever outgrows it, the paid plan is yours to choose and pay for directly, in your own account, and we would tell you before it happened rather than after.

Can I remove you from the account later?

Yes, and without asking us. The account is yours, we are added as a member, and you can remove that access whenever you like. If you would rather we were not on it at all, that works too, though it means every publish has to go through you.

Do you handle the domain as well?

We connect it, and we do not own it. The domain stays registered in your own account in your own name, renewed by you. That separation matters more than anything else in this list, and the reasons are on the ownership page.
